The Highlander in Belsay, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne has been brought to the market by specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co.

A former coaching inn that dates back to around 1700, it retains much of its original character including a log burning stove, and currently offers home-cooked food. It has been passed down through the centuries that ‘Bonnie Prince Charlie’, son of the exiled Stuart King James II of England, bathed on the site in 1746.

The current owners, Bill & Carol Newlove, are looking to retire after enjoying 15 successful years at the pub. It has an extensive trade area including a 50-cover bar and lounge and a dining room capable of seating 100 customers. It also includes a large beer garden and a substantial four-bedroom owners’ flat with a private garden.

David Cash, Business Agent in Christie & Co’s Newcastle office, says, “This is an excellent opportunity for somebody, whether they’re local or from outside the area, to take on a turn-key operation.

“Located close to Newcastle International Airport and around 11 miles from Newcastle city centre, The Highlander is a traditional, food-led eatery which benefits from a strong local customer base sitting just north of the affluent village of Ponteland, and is also popular with tourists commuting north & south via the A696.”

“For anybody concerned about not having experience, Bill & Carol have kindly offered to aid in the transition and both have a wealth of experience which would be invaluable to anybody new to the licensed trade.”

The Highlander is available on a leasehold, free of tie basis, at an asking price of £75,000, to include fixtures & fittings.
