Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Free Family Healthy Weight programme

CaptureIn January 2016, Healthy Darlington is launching a free family healthy weight programme.

The free family health programme, MEND. (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it!) empowers children aged 7- 13 years and adults to become fitter, healthier, and happier with support to reach or maintain a healthier weight.

MEND, which is aimed at families with children who are over a healthy weight, runs over a ten week period to help people improve their health, fitness, and self-esteem.

Information and support is provided for the families to choose healthier foods and spend more time being active. It also provides the chance for families to meet other families who are working towards similar goals.

The sessions are designed for parents/carers and children to attend together to learn about healthy living together. It shows how making little changes to you lifestyle can result in big improvements. Some of the sessions are designed for the whole family to take part in and learn together, whilst some are divided into adult/children sessions, offering children time to play exercise based games, whilst the adults focus on more grown-up content.

Andy Scott, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Partnerships said: “The new free family healthy weight programme is a great opportunity to kick start a healthy new year for your family. The information is free, there is great support on hand and the sessions promise to be supportive and fun – I urge you to sign up as soon as possible.”

Sessions will run twice per week in the Health Hub at the Dolphin Centre on Mondays and Thursdays from 4.30pm until 6.30pm.
