Macmillan Fundraising- Rockliffe HallRockliffe Hall’s spa, in Hurworth near Darlington, has handed over a £1000 cheque to Macmillan Cancer Support thanks to donations guests made during National Spa Week.

Therapists offered a variety of poolside mini-treatments, including head and foot massages, hand and arm massages and cuticle and nail treatments. Over 5 days, just over £1000 was raised in total.

As well as its wide selection of traditional treatments and spa days, Rockliffe Hall also has highly-trained therapists who offer specially-developed treatments suitable for those affected by cancer.

Spa director at Rockliffe Hall, Liz Holmes, said: “It’s quite rare for a spa to have therapists trained to be able to deliver treatments specifically for those affected by cancer but it’s something we believe is very important. Our fundraising mini-treatments were really popular and this was reflected in the amount our therapists raised. We’re very grateful to our guests who really supported the events as it is such an important cause.”

Michelle Muir, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “The money Rockliffe Hall Spa has raised will go towards supporting local people affected by cancer. It costs £27 an hour to fund a Macmillan nurse, helping patients and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support. Macmillan relies solely on donations from the public, so this fundraising is a great boost. Also, having trained specialists able to deliver treatments specifically for those affected by cancer is a credit to Rockliffe Hall as being pampered could make all the difference to how someone is feeling.”

The fundraising events took place over National Spa Week in November, now in its 10th year, which is organised by the UK Spa Association, a not-for-profit organisation that supports the UK spa industry. The aim of the dedicated week is to raise awareness about spa use and to highlight some of the many health benefits for a variety of people of all ages, whether male or female.
