The family-run restaurant, on College Square in the market town, has again secured five stars for its hygiene, an award it has constantly retained since opening in 2008.

The National Food Hygiene Rating, awarded jointly by the Food Standards Agency and Hambleton District Council, is an important accreditation for food outlets and provides customers with at-a-glance information about hygiene standards.

Following thorough inspections, businesses are awarded a rating from zero to five- with five being the highest- in recognition of compliance with food hygiene standards and safety procedures, compliance with structural requirements and confidence in management procedures.

As well as its food, Howards has become highly regarded for its varied wine list, which offers reasonably priced wines thanks to its local importation, and commitment to employing local people from within a 10 mile radius and assisting with their continuing education and development in conjunction with Middlesbrough College.

Manager of Howards, Peter Holligon, said: “The highest levels of hygiene are vital in any food business and we constantly work to exceed recommendations. Our team always makes this a priority and it is testament to them that we have never received fewer than five stars in our eight years in Stokesley.”
