Major highway maintenance works on the A68 West Auckland Road will commence on Friday 9 th June and will continue for approximately six months.
The maintenance works, which are being funded by the Highways England’s Housing and Growth Fund, is part of a package of work planned to improve traffic flow on the A68 and enable future housing at West Park and employment in Faverdale.
Delays are to be expected due to the inbound carriageway in between the A1 interchange and Rotary Way Roundabout being closed for up to 6 months.
All inbound traffic will be diverted onto a contraflow in the opposite lane and the speed limit will be reduced to 30mph to make it safe for highway users and site workers.
The completed highway improvement works will widen the inbound side of the A68 creating three lanes on the approach to Rotary Way roundabout.
Unfortunately, due to the works, some disruption is inevitable whilst the works are ongoing and we apologise for any issues and delays caused to residents and highway users.
