North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

See it Do it Sunderland
See it Do it Sunderland

The event was a huge success with hundreds of people attending and taking advantage of a wide variety of free sports activity taster sessions on the day. The next festival takes place at Barnes Park on Wednesday 3 August from 12noon – 4pm.

Everyone is encouraged to have a go, free of charge, in a sport or activity they might not usually have chosen. There is also plenty of information on opportunities to continue taking part in a sport or activity that they like. Working with partners and sports clubs, the aim of the festival programme is to increase the number of active people across the city.

Each area festival offers a wide range of different sporting activities and one of the providers taking part at Barnes Park is Gateway North East, a charity focused on working with young people who have learning difficulties.

Laura Fearne, head coach at Gateway North East said: “We delivered various activities at one of the Active Sunderland Festivals last year and we are really looking forward to being involved again on Wednesday”.

She added: “The Area Sports Festivals are a great opportunity for us to showcase what Gateway has to offer and encourage young people with disabilities to participate in sport and activities, we look forward to seeing as many people as possible at Barnes Park on Wednesday 3 August”

All of the activities are free and include:

• Table Tennis
• Climbing Wall
• Golf Driving Range and Mini Golf
• Trampolining
• Football
• Rugby
• Cricket
• Traditional sports day games

The next Active Sunderland Community Sports Festival will take place on Wednesday 10 August at Seaburn Beach and promenade from 12noon to 4pm. The festival will once again feature many free activities with something for all the family.

Further details will be released soon so please check the Active Sunderland Facebook page to keep up to date with the activity programme or go towww.activesunderland.org.uk for Active Sunderland news and events.
