North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Sunderland’s Hilton Garden InnA NORTH EAST hotel went above and beyond to ensure that its military guests had a memorable stay during one of the most important events on the region’s calendar.

Sunderland’s Hilton Garden Inn was the official hotel for last weekend’s (22 July) Sunderland International Airshow, which welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors to the seafront to see a range of nail-biting air displays.

The hotel – located next to the Stadium of Light – was the temporary home to many of the pilots who were taking part in the event, including the Tigers Freefall Parachute Team, the Vampire pair who fly De Havilland vampires, the Red Bull Matadors and a whole host of other daredevils.

The 141 bedroom hotel, which opened earlier this year, was at maximum occupancy for the weekend while the on-site Karbon Grill restaurant was also packed throughout the three day event.

“It was a great honour for us to be the official hotel for the airshow,” said Kim Kelso, General Manager at Hilton Garden Inn Sunderland.

“It’s such a huge and important event for the region and we were delighted to be able to welcome all of the pilots and to ensure that they had a really memorable stay in the city.

“Many of them come back every year but obviously this is the first time they’ve had the option of staying at the Hilton Garden Inn and all the feedback we’ve had has shown they’ve had a fantastic stay.”
