American take on an English classic at Karbon Grill

American Afternoon Tea (2)CHICKEN wings, sliders, key lime pie and mini milkshakes are on the menu as part of an American-style afternoon tea at Sunderland’s newest destination restaurant.

The Karbon Grill at the Hilton Garden Inn, Sunderland, opened its doors in April, offering Pan-American cuisine with a Latin flavour

It has recently launched a revised menu, which includes an innovative new twist on the iconic English afternoon tea.

Served up in the Karbon Bar, the American Sharing Tower is a platter of USA-inspired classics available for a minimum of two people to share.

The savoury selection kicks off with a selection of snacks, which include mini calzones, pork and chorizo sliders, buffalo chicken wings and cheese and pickle bites.

These are followed by a choice of desserts, including slices of Mississippi mud cake, pecan tart and that all-American classic key lime pie, all washed down with tasty mini strawberry and banana milkshakes.

And, for those who prefer to stick with tradition, the Karbon Grill has also launched a classic afternoon tea which celebrates the best of British.

Diners can enjoy finger sandwiches with savoury cheese, ham and tomato and tuna mayo and cucumber before tucking into a selection of cakes and scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream.

Tea connoisseurs can choose from a selection of Ringtons speciality loose teas or freshly brewed coffee.

Hilton Garden Inn Sunderland’s General Manager, Kim Kelso, is excited about the launch of this fun new addition to the menu.

“We are always looking for innovative ideas and following fantastic feedback about our American menu, we decided to add something else a little bit different,” she said.

“While everyone is familiar with the traditional English afternoon tea, this isn’t something normally associated with America. However, our talented team has worked hard to create something different and we are sure customers are going to love this new take on an old classic.”

The American Sharing Tower costs £14.50 per person and requires a minimum of two people sharing. The Classic Afternoon Tea costs £12.50 per person or £16.95 per person with a glass of Prosecco and £19.95 per person with glass of champagne. Both are served from noon until 5pm daily.
