Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

ArmchairA 19th Century Highland Cattle Horn Armchair, with origins from the Balmoral Estate was the major highlight at the Swan and Turner summer auction sale, selling over the telephone for £700.00 to a Middle Eastern Royal House.

The sale, which was held at the Jedburgh auction rooms on Saturday, saw 700 lots going under the hammer with the many items offered for sale including a large collection of antiques, jewellery, porcelain and fine furniture.

The sale was well attended, attracting buyers from throughout the UK and further afield, either bidding in person or by telephone.  As ever, interest was high for all types of antiques, and in terms of what is trending it was the fine furniture, jewellery, collectables and ceramics together with the porcelain items, which were most sought after.  A small 3 inch figure of a Jade Dog of Foo with pup achieved a very good price of £1300.00, whilst a 19th Century Galle Porcelain Cat fetched £1000.00, and a late 19th Century Meissen Lidded Vase was sold for £500.00.

“We were not surprised at all to see the highly saleable 19th Century Highland Cattle Horn Armchair, achieving a price 40% higher than that which we had estimated,” said Auctioneer Frank Forrest.

“As always the sale was very well attended with keen bidding fetching good prices.  We were particularly delighted with the prices achieved in the collectable, ceramic and porcelain sections.” continues Frank.

Swan and Turner Auctioneers and Valuers, part of Harrison and Hetherington hold a range of auctions throughout the year and they are now collecting entries for the forthcoming Autumn Sale to be held in October.

Swan and Turner provide a complete auction house service, holding five antique auctions a year.  The sales programme includes regular auction sales of fine art, antique and collectables, which are interspersed with occasional specialist sales.
