Screen Shot 2016-04-11 at 15.54.36A specialist art and design college in the north east is seeking the next generation of fashion designers, photographers and illustrators, with an open day later this month to promote its diverse range of creative courses.

Cleveland College of Art and Design (CCAD) is hosting the open day on 19 April from 5.30pm until 8pm and inviting the potential young artists and designers and their families to visit the college’s further education (FE) campus on Green Lane in Middlesbrough to view its courses and facilities.

As it gets closer to decision time for young students looking to take the next step into further education, staff from the leading north east art and design college will be on hand to help prospective students make the best choice.

Courses include A-levels, foundation diploma, access to Higher Education and BTEC Extended Diplomas in subjects such costume, jewellery and interior accessories, interior, architecture and product (3D), fashion and textiles and interactive media.

Guests can take part in tours of the teaching and student facilities – including dedicated studios and workshops – allowing opportunities to see a range of student work and gain a deeper insight into how the top performing college sends the highest percentage of students on to university in the Tees Valley.

Student ambassadors will also be available to give an experienced view of the college, the courses and life at the art institution, as well as the student services and student recruitment teams who can provide information and advice on finance, travel, application processes and other support services.

CCAD provides a successful foundation for students to progress to higher education. Former students have gone on to further study at prominent academic institutions in art and design, including Ramsey MacDonald from Hartlepool. The 20-year-old completed his BTEC Extended Diploma in Fashion and Textiles in 2015, and is now studying fashion at the prestigious Central Saint Martin’s College in London. He said: “The teachers were great and are very experienced, which means you can learn a wide range of skills on the course, such as designer or merchandiser. The college tailors the course to your needs and nurtures you as a designer.”

20-year-old Lucy Hutchcraft, from Eaglescliffe in Stockton-on-Tees, left CCAD in 2015 with a BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and is now studying Performance Costume at The University of Edinburgh. She said: “It was an absolutely brilliant course and I loved every part of it. It really helped me with my goal of getting to university.”
