Developer Banks Property, part of The Banks Group, is looking to secure planning permission for 100 family homes on a 5.4 hectare site off Roundhill Road that will be in keeping with the existing character, size and scale of the village.
After holding a public exhibition to introduce the project in May, the County Durham-based firm has been working to finalise the details of its proposals, as well as gathering ideas from local people about how they think the overall development package might best be used to deliver long-term economic, environmental and social benefits to the local community.
Traffic management measures for both Roundhill Road and other locations in the village have been included in the plans, while measures to address local flooding and drainage concerns have also been developed.
Lewis Stokes, community relations manager at The Banks Group, says: “We’ve been working hard to finalise our proposals for Roundhill Road as quickly as possible, and are very pleased to have now reached this important project milestone.
“At the beginning of our local consultations, we committed to this scheme being no larger than 100 properties, which is less than six per cent of the number of homes that presently make up the village, and we’ve delivered on that commitment in the planning application that has now been submitted.
“There is a clear and increasingly pressing need across North East England to increase the available supply of quality homes, and our Roundhill Road scheme has been designed as a way of enabling more young families in the region to live in the places where they grow up or move to where they wish to be.
“The comments and ideas we have had from local people, groups and businesses over the last few months have been extremely useful in helping our project team finalise the details of our proposals, and we’re grateful to all those who took the time to talk to us about their ideas.
“We are looking to create a high quality new residential community in what is a wholly appropriate location for this type of development, and hope that our planning application’s many merits will be recognised by Darlington Borough Council’s planning committee when it comes to assess it.”
