Barking Tales – The mental health comedy night coming to Newcastle

barking tales largeComedian Harriet Dyer brings her Barking Tales comedy night (where the acts tell stories / do material about anything relating to mental health in a bid to break the stigma that still surrounds it. It’s all a lot more fun than it sounds) to The Stand, Newcastle.

The debut show, July 3rd sees Matt Reed perform bits from his critically acclaimed show, ‘Stalked’

Like many comics Matt was excruciatingly lonely… until five years ago, when he met the girl of his dreams, fell in love, and experienced four years of absolute hell. Love hurts, but being catfished will tear your heart out. This is the story about how his life got flipped, turned upside down, and he’d like to take a minute – just sit right there – to tell you about the time he was stalked. Packed with jokes, Stalked provides a fascinating insight into the dark world of catfishing.

“Absolutely hilarious” (BBC).

Plus John Scott – Warm up for such established names as Frankie Boyle, Ross Noble, Reginald D Hunter, Jerry Sadowitz, Stewart Francis and is about to embark on a tour supporting Tom Stade.

His TV and Radio work includes Radio Scotland’s Fred Macaulay show, BBC Radio Newcastle (Various) The Hour, Edinburgh Nights, The Rovers Pub Quiz, Live at Jongleurs for Loaded TV and Late Nite. As a writer he has contributed to Top 50 Greatest Scots, The Live Floorshow and has recently been asked to contribute to a new comedy show for BBC radio Newcastle.

“Always plays a blinder. Never hits a dry patch. People were literally in tears of laughter.” Edinburgh Evening News

And Darren Harriott – One of the most exciting up-and- coming comedians on the circuit. He recently appeared on ‘Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central’, supporting Jimmy Carr; he is currently providing tour support for Funmbi Omotayo on his national tour; and he will be heading to the Edinburgh Festival this year as part of the prestigious Pleasance Reserve.

A confident performer with a captivating charm, Darren’s comedy deals with everything from subverting stereotypes, to everyday observations, to that

juiciest of topics, religion – all with a cutting edge, and a great beard. “A likeable and charismatic performer” Paul Sinha Mc’d by Harriet Dyer – Fresh and unique, it’s a pleasure to spend time in Harriet’s company as she weaves her surreal and hilarious tales.

The show was created after Harriet’s debut solo outing ‘Barking at Aeroplanes’ which premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014, it explored her myriad escapades, which often end in folk questioning her mental health, her tales consistently delving into the thin line between ‘eccentric’ and ‘mental.’

“Instinctively funny… seems certain to become a comic force to be reckoned with”

“A bundle of whimsical hilarity… a breath of fresh air.. will have you in stitches”

Broadway Baby

Profit goes to the charity, Tyneside and Northumberland Mind.
