Beacon Lighting Celebrates Queen’s Birthday

CaptureSouth Tyneside celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday with a special beacon lighting in South Shields.

Members of the public joined the Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Richard Porthouse, to light the beacon at the Lawe Top Beacon in North Marine Park, South Shields, on Thursday, 21 April.

The ceremony to commemorate Her Majesty’s life, her dedication to the Commonwealth and international affairs as well as the British Navy, Army and Air Force, included live music from Westoe Brass Band, who played Happy Birthday when the beacon was lit.

The Mayor said: “It was an honour to mark the Queen’s 90th Birthday in this way together with residents from across the Borough who turned out to see the lighting of the beacon.

“As the Queen’s representatives in the Borough the Mayoress and I wish her all the best and good health for her birthday and look forward to the upcoming national celebrations over the summer to further mark this momentous occasion.”
