Billingham Town Council and Elton Parish Council to be Retained

logo-landscapeBILLINGHAM Town Council and Elton Parish Council will be retained.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council agreed the final decision at its full meeting last night (27 April).

Members also recommended that a process to elect Members to Elton Parish Council should begin.  If this process does not deliver a Parish Council that is quorate, action will be taken to dissolve the Parish and abolish the Parish Council.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet recommended to the full Council meeting that both councils are retained following consultation on the draft proposals which had been carried out as part of community governance reviews.

The community governance reviews were held in response to Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council receiving a valid petition calling for the abolition of Billingham Town Council, and because Elton Parish Council has not operated since December 2008.

Further information about the community governance reviews can be found at www.stockton.gov.uk/communitygovernance
