Bin collection days changing in the new year

Vital information about changes to bin collections coming to Richmondshire early in the New Year is dropping through letterboxes this week.

Every home will receive a postcard detailing the changes to household and recycling collection days – which come into force on January 16.

The District Council is rationalising the waste and recycling collection rounds in order to make savings – and for some people that could mean collection days changing. Where the changes result in significant gaps between collection days during the changeover extra collections will be put on – or additional bags will be provided to avoid waste piling up.

Bins must also be put at the kerbside by 6am – and may not be collected until 6pm under the new scheme.

“The new rounds will make our waste crews more efficient – and mean our operatives work longer days but shorter weeks,” said Councillor Tony Duff, portfolio holder for waste (pictured)

“This will mean collection day changes for most households.  We can reduce the refuse fleet by two vehicles which will bring savings of at least £80,000 for the authority.”

Details on the collection day changes can also be found on the collection finder on richmondshire.gov.uk – simply put in a postcode to find the relevant day.
