Biochemica Water Shortlisted for Company of the Year Award

Billingham based water and wastewater treatment specialists Biochemica Water have been shortlisted in the Company of the Year category at the prestigious North East Business Awards Teesside Heat.

On the back of their NEPIC SME of the Year win, Biochemica Water has been shortlisted for the top award at the Teesside heat of the North East Business Awards. Competing against Stokesley based food manufacturers Quorn and Hartlepool based energy experts Utility Alliance, Biochemica Water will be hoping to walk away as winners at Teesside University on the 22nd March.

The shortlisting for Company of the Year comes off the back of a fantastic year for the water treatment firm, who saw turnover increase by 20% and staff numbers increase by 50% in 2017. This was topped off in January when they were recognised as SME of the Year by the Gold Label economic cluster NEPIC at their annual awards dinner.

Biochemica Water is a relatively new player, making huge strides since opening in 2007. Founded by Dave Ruddy and Dr Tim Robinson, the water and wastewater firm offer treatment services to a number of industries including manufacturing, pharmaceutical and the public sector.

The judging panel for the award, including two representatives from the Tees Valley Combined Authority and a representative from NECC, visited Biochemica Water head offices in early February to discuss the application with directors whilst taking a tour of the premises and were impressed by what they seen.

Managing Director, John Fraser said “It was such an honour to be shortlisted for the Company of the Year Award at the North East Business Awards, especially on the back of our SME of the Year win at the NEPIC Awards.

“The last 2 years have seen a phenomenal rise by us, not just in sales and staff numbers, but in the structure of the company. Our rise has been one of the real success stories in North East in a time where others have struggled.

“It was fantastic to host the judges for the afternoon and introduce them to our story, which I think they were impressed with. We are competing against two fantastic companies for the top award in Quorn Foods and Utility Alliance, so it promises to be an exciting evening.”

This is not the first time Biochemica Water has been up for an award at the North East Business Awards, with them winning the Innovation Award at the Teesside heat in 2011.
