A restored pub at the heart of the Beamish valley is brewing up excitement for the launch of a special function space in its spacious rural grounds.

The Black Horse Beamish, which dates back to the 1700s, is opening The Orchard Marquee – a 6000 sq ft permanent marquee set within 33 acres of County Durham countryside – to cater for a range of special occasions, from weddings and birthday parties to large corporate events, with the creation of more than 15 full and part time jobs.

The marquee was purchased from Roda in Germany and can accommodate up to 300 guests for a sit down event, or up to 500 standing. It boasts panoramic views of the Beamish conservation valley and features its own bar, beer cellar, kitchen and gazebo.  Further plans are also in motion for outside seating, a hot roast and BBQ area overlooking the orchard.

Bob Fountain, who owns the Black Horse Beamish and the neighbouring Aston Workshop, and has invested £500,000 in the installation of the marquee, said: “We already successfully cater for a wide range of special events at the Black Horse Beamish, but knew there was a demand for a larger, highly versatile space which makes full use of the beautiful surroundings we have here.

“The Orchard Marquee is the newest addition to our event spaces and we’re proud to be able to offer one of the very few permanent marquees in the North East right here in our grounds. It’s a stunning venue located within an idyllic countryside setting and we’ve already had a wealth of enquiries about it.

“The marquee has hi spec facilities and can be easily adapted to guests’ requirements – whether they’re planning a wedding, banquet, gig, fashion show, charity ball or awards ceremony. It’s a fantastic space and we have a talented events team in place to offer bespoke, grand experiences for every budget.”

The Black Horse Beamish also has 10 acres of onsite vegetable gardens and takes pride in its ‘field to plate’ dining experiences, which will feature on the menus designed for The Orchard Marquee.

A Wedding Open Day will be held at The Orchard Marquee on Sunday, October 16 from 11am to 4pm. Entry is free. To make an appointment to speak with a wedding coordinator on the day, please email info@blackhorsebeamish.co.uk
