Screen Shot 2016-03-22 at 16.20.12NEWCASTLE’S Bonbar is preparing to welcome its 250,000th customer and serve its 100,000th cocktail this weekend as it celebrates its second birthday.

Popular with North East party-goers and some famous faces, the venue opened its doors in 2014 following a £1m investment which transformed part of the ground floor area within the iconic Assembly Rooms.

The bar, restaurant and late night lounge specialises in cocktails, selling over 1,000 every week, with award-winning head mixologist Johnny Hume creating unique mixes which attract over 2,000 customers weekly.

Since opening, Bonbar has become a favourite with chart toppers Little Mix, who have been known to dine at the venue and party into the early hours, recently celebrating band member Jade Thirlwall’s 23rd birthday in style.

Other celebrities to have graced the dancefloor include musicians Mark Knopfler, Faye Tozer from Steps, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Alexandra Burke and ACDC’s Brian Johnson, as well as North East legends Alan Shearer and Tim Healy.

Bonbar will mark its second birthday in spectacular fashion this weekend, kick-starting the celebrations on Friday 25 March 2016 with a big prize giveaway.

The Golden Macaroon Prize Giveaway will see a show-stopper macaroon tower unveiled, with 25 of the macaroons containing exclusive prizes to be won, including a luxury hotel stay and dinner for two, as well as a range of offers from the venue; afternoon tea, Sunday lunch, bottles of fizz and cocktails.

Those looking to enjoy a Good Friday tradition can dine on gourmet fish and chips with three portion sizes available, served from 12pm to 9pm.

Guests can make way for the weekend to the sounds of live sax and flute from 6pm to 9pm, before a live performance from Beth Macari at 9pm and then again at 10pm. DJ Mojaxx will then take to the decks, leading the party into the early hours.

On Saturday 26 March 2016, the popular Be Somebody club evening will welcome the region’s socialites to dance the night away to the sounds of DJ Udo until 4am.

The celebrations will go off with a bang on Sunday 27 March 2016 at the venue’s Bank Holiday club night Famous Last Words. From 9pm to 4am, the birthday party-themed evening will see a party like no other, with MRR UDO, DJ Mojaxx and JamDJ on the decks, as well as a live sax performance from Johny Blue Hat, and a special giant birthday cake complete with a surprise waiting inside.

Tickets and VIP table bookings for Be Somebody and Famous Last Words are available now from £8.
