Innovative sandwich manufacturer On a Roll Sandwich Company has further shown its commitment to investing in young talent, by taking on two new apprentices.
The company that manufactures over eight million sandwiches per year from its Teesside base, has taken on Chloe Kemp, 17, from Thornaby and Alice Worthy, 18 from Middlesbrough to support its growing team.
Chloe who previously studied at St Patrick’s Collage has joined the business administration side of the business, helping to order and process delivery notes, create product labels and direct phonecalls. Alice who studied at Kings Academy Sixth form and has joined the Accounts team aiding with invoicing, delivery notes and also supporting the key management team.
Chloe said: “It’s been a complete eye-opener coming here, there’s always so much going on and something different to do, meaning I can get stuck in all the different tasks and get as much experience as possible.
“The best thing has to be the people, although it’s a massive company and there are so many staff it really does feel like a family, all our tasks link together and we really help each other out wherever possible.”
The two girls are hoping to continue working with the sandwich manufacturer after they’ve completed their business administration apprenticeships.
Alice said: “I really love the work I’m doing and always make sure that everything’s completed and don’t feel right leaving for the day unless everything’s ready for me to get started the next.
“The accounts team are lovely and I’m really enjoying learning about the finance side of the business.”
Investing in youth is a key priority of Managing Director James Stoddart, who was most recently nominated for North East Business Executive of the Year.
He said: “Young people and fresh ideas are the lifeblood of any growing business. Every company has an aging workforce and it’s so important that whilst we have our current employees keeping important processes running that we are introducing new people to the team and trying their new ideas and processes.
“We are delighted to have the two girls with us and they are doing a brilliant job, I’m really looking forward to seeing how they progress throughout the company.”
On a Roll Sandwich Company most recently won Sandwich Manufacturer of the Year in the 2016 Sammies, the industry body’s prestidious awards.
With a busy year coming to a close the company is continuing to buildn on its already strong relationships in the retail, travel, education and corporate sectors.
