Pupils at the Friarage Community Primary School will be able to enjoy a hearty breakfast in the new term, having secured funding from Beyond Housing.

The housing company is providing £6,125 from its corporate social responsibility fund to run the club for two years, working in partnership with The Greggs Foundation’s Breakfast Club Programme. Beyond Housing’s social value fund is delivered in collaboration with builders’ merchant Travis Perkins. Up to 75 children will be given a nutritious start to their day, with fresh bread being delivered daily from the local Greggs bakery, while the sponsorship from Beyond Housing will provide cereal, fruit, yoghurt and the crockery and utensils.

The Greggs Breakfast Club Programme was established in 1999 to help provide primary school pupils with a hearty breakfast to start their day. Beyond Housing has a history of supporting community initiatives at the Friarage Community School. In 2017, the company worked with the school on the RESPECT campaign and in 2018, sponsored the establishment of a club for single fathers.

Stephanie Lake, community connector coordinator at Beyond Housing said: “The Greggs Breakfast Club is a fantastic initiative which delivers really positive results for schools nationwide.

“At Beyond Housing, we’re passionate about our communities and committed to contributing to the lives of our residents in whatever way we can. We’re delighted to continue our work with Friarage Community Primary School.”

Once established, the breakfast clubs cost around £2,000 to run each year, building relationships with local businesses to ensure its long-term sustainability.
