BT Recruitment Plans in South Tyneside Move Up a Gear

BT is holding two open days at its state-of-the-art building on Harton Quay in South Shields, as part of plans to recruit around 50 new staff and boost customer service.
        The new recruits will work in mainly sales and customer service roles with recruiters keen to attract applicants from across South Tyneside and the wider region.
        Farooq Hakim, BT’s regional director for the North East, said: “This is the perfect opportunity for someone looking for a secure, well-paid and flexible job with long term career prospects and excellent training in one of the UK’s top companies.
        “Our Harton Quay building is a vibrant place to work with a great atmosphere. There is always something going on – we’ve had visits from the Champions League Trophy and its security team, gold medal-winning Paralympians and, most recently, Jake Humphrey. We also regularly hold fundraising events in support of telethons such as Children in Need and Sport Relief.”
        The two open days will be held at the South Shields site1 on Wednesday March 30, 6.20-8.00pm and on Saturday April 2 between 2.20pm and 4.00pm. Anyone looking for career change or a fresh start can register to attend atBT.Recruitment@manpower.co.uk.
        Successful applicants will be answering calls and talking to customers from across the UK, providing them with information on the products and packages which best suit their needs. In return they will receive a starting salary of more than £17,500 plus bonus, flexible shifts, 22 days paid holidays plus eight bank holidays, pension and sharesave schemes plus free BT Broadband and discounts on mobile products.
        This latest recruitment will expand BT’s involvement in the regeneration of South Tyneside, which is centered on the BT South Tyneside strategic partnership between BT and South Tyneside Council.

        BT’s Consumer division recently filled an extra 1,000 roles in its UK contact centres to enable it to service more of its residential customers in the UK and is in the process of recruiting a further 1,000 before April 2017.       
        BT Consumer has committed to improve customer service and is spending an extra £80m over two years to boost performance, in addition to the hundreds of millions of pounds it spends each year on service.
         Every advisor will each receive an extra 100 hours of training. The company is also investing in new simpler systems for its advisors, improving service on bt.com and has launched the BT App that allows customers to do things like check their bill or track the progress of their engineer if they have booked a home appointment.
