North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Building a modern-day marketing career in an ancient institution

Following on from CIM’s launch of 50 North East Marketing Greats earlier in the year, they invite you to meet Adam Brown, Director of Marketing and Communications at Durham University, a world top 100 University.

The initiative aims to develop and retain marketing talent in the North East region.  Diane Earles, Network Manager for CIM, explains “‘Through the ‘Marketing Greats’ we want to provide insight into the importance of a strategic marketing function and to inspire both existing marketing professionals and young people considering a career in marketing.  Each ‘Marketing Great’ is profiled in an online case study which includes their words of wisdom for aspiring marketers alongside their career story and why they enjoy working in the region.”  She continued, “Developing our original ‘Great North East Brands’ initiative, which ran for a number of years, ‘Marketing Greats’ provides a regional platform for marketing to be recognised as having a key role in business growth while celebrating the number of senior marketers located in the North East.”

Like Adam Brown, who joined Durham University in 2006 because it was a “global brand that played an important role in driving economic growth in the North East” which was what he was looking for.  Adam said, “I oversee the University’s Marketing and Communications operation with a team of around 30 staff covering corporate communications, research, profile-raising, student recruitment marketing, web and digital, internal communications and stakeholder relations.  None of these terms would have been in existence when Durham first opened its doors, but that is what keeps this great institution fresh whilst remaining rooted to, and in, the region.”
