SOL West (1)Food, footballers and one of music’s biggest acts are promising a year to remember at one North East venue.

From this month (January 2015), the Stadium of Light, Sunderland, will be hosting a packed programme of events for all ages, starting with a Post-Christmas Party Night on January 17.

This will be followed by a celebration of Scotland’s national bard with a traditional five course supper, live entertainment and a chance to sample wines from around the world in a Burns Gourmet Night on January 23.

In February, along with the candlelit Valentine’s Evening, the Stadium of Light will also be welcoming more than 100 suppliers from across the North East for the Wedding Wonder Show (February 8) and pitting former SAFC, NUFC and Middlesbrough FC players against one another in a Question of Sport-style quiz (February 28).

Mother’s Day will be marked with a special lunch event on March 15, followed by a St Patrick’s Day celebration, including a themed quiz hosted by SAFC legends Jimmy Montgomery and Kevin Ball, on March 17.

There will be more opportunities to sample fine food and drink throughout spring and summer, including an Easter Sunday Lunch on April 5, a Champagne Gourmet Evening on May 8, a Father’s Day Lunch on June 21 and a British Summer Garden Party on June 13.

For families and young SAFC supporters, the Stadium of Light will be hosting a Junior Black Cats Family Fun Day on July 4, including a fun size fairground and entertainment for all ages.

The spring/summer season will also be dominated by the arrival of Grammy award-winning rock legends, Foo Fighters, who perform at the Stadium of Light on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25.

All of these events will be overseen by 1879 Events Management, which is also planning a series of celebrations at The Beach House, Roker and National Glass Centre, Sunderland.  This is expected to include activities for all ages throughout the Easter and summer school holidays.

Gary Hutchinson, Commercial Director at Sunderland AFC and 1879 Events Management, said: “2015 is shaping up to be an extremely busy year at the Stadium of Light, with a wide range of events taking place every month.

“This is in addition to the private bookings already being taken for weddings, business conferences and other similar celebrations, both at the Stadium and its sister venues, which means the next 12 months will be some of the best yet for 1879 Events.”

Events at the Stadium of Light from January to July 2015 are priced from £2 to £54.50 per person.  For full listings visit www.thestadiumoflight.com or search for the stadiumoflight on Twitter and Facebook.
