Niche medical specialists’ BW Medical Accountants has recruited seven members of staff and has launched a new service focused primarily on hospital consultants and other high earning healthcare professionals.
The specialist firm has shown strong growth since its inception in July 2013 when it was launched by Blackett Walker wealth management founders Kevin Walker and Richard Blackett with medical finance and business accountant Keith Taylor at the helm.
It now services over 100 GP practices and an expanding portfolio of 1200 healthcare professionals including GPs, hospital consultants, hospitals doctors, dentists and GP Federations, across England.
In line with demand BW Medical has recruited seven staff, most recently Iram Mukhtar a medical tax senior, Ambika Venayak, a medical accounts assistant and Dunil Baines a medical services accountant. They have joined Jane Marley, a fully qualified accountant; Ashley Hayes, an NHS administrator; Samantha Irving, a tax technician and Frances Elliot a tax administrator all more recent recruits of the 20 strong BW Medical team.
Dunil Baines said: “In 2002 I moved into the medical side of accountancy, working with GP practices, dental practices, and healthcare professionals so I’m bringing specialist accountancy knowledge acquired over many years to an exciting and expanding medical specialist firm here at BW Medical Accountants.”
As part of BW Medical’s growth strategy the firm has also launched a service designed for high earning healthcare workers. The new service has a particular focus on hospital consultants in light of the recent introduction of far more complex rules for those classed as high earners, making the annual tax return a job requiring expert financial advice and assistance.
David Elliot Tax Director for BW Medical said: “The need for a specialist accountant for the medical sector has never been so great than at the present time.
“Hospital consultants in particular have been used to being able to avoid the NHS Pension and income tax complexities associated with General Practice. But this new complexity now goes beyond GPs and GP practices and includes anyone who is eligible for an NHS Pension and in particular those classed as high earners by the government.
“We already look after a number of hospital consultants but many more individuals who have historically filed their own tax returns could now be risking an unexpected tax bill following the introduction of highly complex new rules for the NHS Pension Scheme for the 2016-17 accounting period. It is for this reason BW Medical has launched a service focusing primarily on hospital consultants and other high earning healthcare professionals.”
