Byker tenant event kicks off in style

Byker Community Trust (BCT) housing association’s annual tenant event has once again proved to be successful with tenants, staff and partners celebrating another successful year on the iconic Grade II* listed Byker Estate.

After the success of its inaugural event last year, the free tenant event is an opportunity for the organisation to highlight its key achievements over the year but also outline its plans for the coming year.

The theme for this year’s event focussed on health and wellbeing and a number of key partners attended to give demonstrations and speak to tenants about the services they deliver on the Byker Estate.

During the morning session, staff from the BCT gave presentations on key areas of the business such as investment and the improvements that have been made. They also highlighted key performance and the impact this has on the service they provide to tenants.

The afternoon session focussed on health and wellbeing with former Newcastle United goalkeeper Steve Harper, who is also a patron of the Newcastle United Foundation, talking about the importance of the work that the foundation delivers in the Byker Estate.

Jill Haley, Chief Executive of Byker Community Trust, said: “The annual event is an ideal opportunity for us to communicate and engage with our tenants, to highlight some of the improvements we have made over the last year and also to outline our plans for the forthcoming year and the impact this will have on tenants living on the Estate.

“Our aim is to develop Byker into a thriving community that tenants are proud to live in and that others aspire to live in. By listening and engaging with our tenants at the event or through our other channels of communication, it helps us to focus on and deliver what is important to them.

“The theme for this year’s event was all around health and wellbeing and we are grateful to all our partners including the Newcastle United Foundation and Steve Harper for coming along to speak to our tenants and to highlight the importance of staying fit, active and healthy.”

The event also included activities for the children such as face painting and a magician and there was a free prize draw to win Fitbits, healthy hampers and leisure activity vouchers.
