Calling Community Groups and Charities for Summer Event

Screen Shot 2016-04-19 at 11.45.40Communities groups and charities from across the North East are being given the chance to get involved in a key event in South Tyneside this summer.

South Tyneside Council is hosting a Summer Charity Fayre on Saturday 25 June, in Bents Park, South Shields, as part of the annual South Tyneside Festival.

The event is taking place from 12.30pm to 4.30pm and is expected to attract hundreds of visitors with an afternoon of free family-friendly entertainment featuring live music, dance, children’s entertainment, circus skills, fairground rides and more.

A limited number of plots are available to hire at the event and now the Council is keen to hear from any community groups and charities which would like to take part to raise funds or awareness of their causes.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “We hope to see a wide variety of charities and community groups coming together to help us make this year’s Summer Charity Fayre a real success.

“There will be something for all ages to enjoy making it a lovely afternoon out for the whole family. It also offers groups and charities a wonderful opportunity to raise their profile and raise money for their organisations.

“We would encourage community groups or charities to get in touch to secure their stall on the day.”

Those interested in setting up a stall at the Summer Charity Fayre are asked to apply before the closing date ofFriday 27 May. For further information, or a booking form, contact South Tyneside Council’s Events Team on(0191) 455 4031.

The Summer Charity Fayre forms part of the annual South Tyneside Festival, which is organised by South Tyneside Council and features an exciting FREE three-month programme of live music, family friendly events, entertainment and activities.

Other highlights include a spectacular nautical themed parade through the streets of South Shields on Saturday 2 July, Proms in the Park on Sunday 3 July and four open air Sunday Concerts at Bents Park in July (10, 17, 24, 31).

There will also be Craft Markets at Harton Quays Park on the first Sunday of the month from May to September, live music at the Sandhaven Amphitheatre on Thursdays and Saturdays during June, Kids Fun Fest children entertainment on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 2 to 25 August and brass band performances on Sundayafternoons throughout June, July and August.
