A FOOD bank drive has been organised by a Teesside care home to help struggling families over Christmas.

Mandale House Care Home and Thornaby Food Bank have teamed up to collect non-perishable items for festive hampers.

The elderly residents at the home, in Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, are helping to pack the hampers before being distributed to those in need of support.

An appeal has been put out for donations of tinned or dried food, toiletries, cleaning products and other useful items.

Donations should be dropped off at Mandale House Care Home before 13th December so they can be distributed before Christmas.

Michael Allen, home manager of Mandale House Care Home, on Acklam Road, said: “We wanted to give something back to the community as they are always so supportive of the care home.

“There are so many people who need help and we couldn’t stand by and not take action.”
