SUNDERLAND carers are being given the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy the flight at one of the biggest events in the city calendar.

Sunderland Carers’ Centre is offering carers the chance to get their hands on a limited number of tickets to the Sunderland International Airshow, in a special premier seating zone, where they can enjoy the day from the comfort of a deck chair.

The centre, which provides support to carers in a range of caring roles aged five years and over from across the city, has 60 tickets available for the hospitality zone in Cliffe Park, and they are free to apply for but will be given on a first come, first served basis.

The tickets – 30 of which are for the Saturday display and 30 for the Sunday show – are free, and can be applied for by anyone from the city who takes on a caring role, with only two per person to be allocated.

Graham Burt, chief executive officer, said the centre was keen to give carers the opportunity to enjoy some respite, and enjoy what is one of the most popular regional tourism events, which this year runs from Friday, July 21 to Sunday, July 23.

He said: “The International Airshow is a huge spectacle for Sunderland and attracts an enormous volume of people.

“However, for many carers, who may be assisting someone with special social needs or a disability, it may be impossible for them to take their loved one to an event of this kind, due to the sheer volume of people and accessibility issues.

“The hospitality area is a private, comfortable place from where they will enjoy unspoilt views of the aircraft in action, and feel like a VIP for the day.  Tickets are limited though, so anyone who is interested should get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anyone interested in getting their hands on a pair of tickets should contact Sunderland Carers’ Centre on 0191 549 3768.
