Screen Shot 2016-04-21 at 14.32.04A Jesmond care home has been praised by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in a glowing report by the independent regulator.

Wordsworth House care home, which is operated by Akari Care, was rated ‘Good’ by the CQC, following a recent inspection, which included an ‘Outstanding’ rating in the level of care that it provides.

Based on Clayton Road, the home’s facilities and staff were judged on their safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership during the inspection.

The report, which included comments from residents and their family members, said: “We observed staff interacting positively with people throughout the inspection. All the staff seemed to smile, and people responded in kind, obviously enjoying the company of staffPeople and their relatives told us the service was very effective in meeting people’s needs.”

Comments from residents and their relatives included: “I do feel safe here. I am treated with respect,” and “There’s a very caring culture, here. Lots of staff will do that little bit extra, like offering to go to the shops for me,” as well as: “The staff are kind, generous and helpful…”The care here is absolutely superb”; and, “The TLC is really excellent.”

A visiting professional to the home commented: “Very pleasantly surprised at the homeliness and friendliness of staff. I go into a lot of care homes and none have ever met this standard. I would certainly consider this home for my family members.”

Lisa Stephenson, home manager at Wordsworth House, said: “We are delighted with the CQC’s findings, which are a testament to the hard work and professionalism of our staff. The comments from residents, their relatives and healthcare professionals were particularly pleasing and we are now looking to build on this period of positivity.

“Delivering a high level of care to our residents is our highest priority and it is important that these high standards are consistently met. We won’t rest on our laurels, though, and will continue to go the extra mile for our residents, which will hopefully lead to even more positive inspections in the future.”

Wordsworth House provides nursing care for up to 73 elderly residents.
