Clearing helped April change career direction

Graduation 2016

Changing direction in her studies has led April Wright towards a career in forensic investigation since graduating from Teesside University.

April, 22, who is originally from Watford, was all set to start a degree in psychology and counselling at another university but decided to reassess her study plans before taking up her place on the course.

It led April to switch to Teesside University and this summer she graduated from the School of Science & Engineering with a First Class BSc (Hons) Crime Scene Science.

April said: “I came to Teesside through Clearing, but it was not because I was looking for a place to study, as I was already enrolled with another university.

“I had however reached the conclusion that I no longer wanted to study psychology, but the university I was enrolled with were unhelpful and unsupportive when I asked about changing my course, which led me to look elsewhere. I decided to apply for the crime scene science course at Teesside University through Clearing.”

Teesside University still has places available for undergraduate study in a range of courses. More information about how to apply can be found at www.tees.ac.uk/clearing.

April added: “The thought of going through Clearing can be scary, but Teesside University talked me through the process and made everything so easy. Although there was a delay in getting my place removed from the other university, Teesside was supportive throughout. They even helped with finding accommodation, as I had never visited the area before.”

She added: “I would recommend my degree to everyone, especially if you enjoy the practical elements of studying. The tutors are amazing, both individually and as a team. They helped me to develop my skills and believe that anything is achievable.

“Teesside exceeded my expectations and I have ended up with a first class degree and will be moving on to study a master’s degree in criminal investigation”
