Cleveland Bridge supports upskilling of staff with successful LEAD qualification programme

Cleveland Bridge UK is helping its employees improve efficiency and increase their skills set with the introduction of a bespoke training programme.

The Darlington-based manufacturer invested in, and received additional funding for, the programme, which put a large number of its workforce through training delivered by Lead Education and Development Limited.

The course, which has been initially delivered to 28 employees, focused on instilling a lean manufacturing philosophy to improve efficiency. It also involved further developing staff in wider business improvement, on the shop floor and office departments.

The group will receive a range of qualifications including Maths at NVQ Level 2/3, English at NVQ Level 2/3 and Business Improvements at NVQ Level 2/3.

As a result of the training, the company has seen a significant improvement in efficiency and communication with a number of projects delivering demonstrable business improvement results.

Established in 2008, LEAD aims to deliver a programme that helps businesses to implement continuous improvement tools and techniques at all levels of the organisation. The tailored programmes are delivered by experienced coaching teams drawn from across customers’ specific sectors.

Chris Droogan, Managing Director of Cleveland Bridge said, “To maintain the continuous development of our company, it’s important to invest in the skills of our workforce, which is why the LEAD qualification has proven to be such a valuable training programme.

“The course has strengthened our employees’ skill sets, and we’ve already seen promising improvements in the confidence of our employees’ day-to-day activities and in the levels of the company’s productivity, which is hugely beneficial.”

David Bearpark, Materials Controller at Cleveland Bridge, said: “Gaining new skills and ways of working has been really interesting. Having been with the company for 37 years, it’s great to have the opportunity to learn new things that will support my job, which took me back to the classroom for the first time in quite a while!”
