Cleveland Potash helps tackle the cold snap

With warnings that this week will see some of the coldest weather of the winter Cleveland Potash, which is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of road salt, is providing a helping hand to local communities.

The company is planning the distribution of up to 90tonnes of salt produced from its Boulby mine, beginning with local schools, to help keep local roads and footpaths safe and clear of ice.

Says Mark Thompson, Salt Sales and Distribution Manager with Cleveland Potash “Each year in winter, around two million tonnes of rock salt are spread onto the roads of Britain and a great deal of it is mined at Boulby.

“Normally, of course, we supply highway authorities across the country to keep the main routes open, but we thought we could also provide a helping hand closer at home, supporting local communities in coping with the cold spell expected over the next few days.

“We are starting by providing salt deliveries to schools in the area and, once their needs have been met, we will see if there are other organisations who might need help. As a company we have strong connections with the local community and this is an opportunity for us to be good neighbours.”
