A Dormanstown community training hub has launched a new workplace-focussed first aid course to help local unemployed people bolster their CVs and find work.
Westfield Farm, Coast & Country Housing’s flagship community training and resource centre, has been approved by Qualsafe to deliver emergency first aid courses after receiving funding from landlord consortium, North East Procurement.
The site, based at Dormanstown Green, can now offer local people the chance to gain Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work certification, which covers all the basic lifesaving first aid and workplace health and safety regulations.
The Farm is a one-stop-shop for people looking to gain employment or skills. It provides high quality advice, guidance, training and support on a drop-in or appointment basis for no cost.
Emma Tooth, community investment officer at Westfield Farm, said: “We’re extremely pleased to have been accredited by Qualsafe to deliver the Emergency First Aid at Work course.
“This new course is the latest in a series of training and guidance programmes that we offer to local residents. We already host sessions aimed at helping people find employment, such as our Digital Champions, who can help people become computer literate, and our weekly work hub drop-in sessions where volunteers help individuals look for jobs, or training opportunities, and prepare for interviews.
“The most important thing anyone can do to boost their chances on the jobs market is to keep skills up to date and stand out from other candidates, so we’d encourage everyone to seize on the opportunity to make use of our facilities.
“Plus, basic first aid is a very useful skill to have. You never know when you will have to put the skills into practice.”
