Screen Shot 2015-05-14 at 09.03.49The national ‘Love Your Local Market’ fortnight starts today (Wednesday 13 May), with lots of great activities taking place in Darlington.

As well as Darlington’s Big Market Event, which takes place on Saturday 16 May from 9am to 5pm, there will be an exhibition of drawings of market traders from the 1980’s in the Victorian Market Hall, as well as demonstrations by local artists.

One lucky school child will win a summer pass to the Dolphin Centre in a poster competition – after creating a poster of ‘the most beautiful fruit and vegetable stall in the world’. The winner will be announced on Friday 15 May and the posters will be displayed in the Market Hall on Saturday 16 May.

Market traders can get social by attending social media training where they can learn how to set up their own Facebook and Twitter accounts – the Markets Team will be visiting traders through the fortnight.

Albert Nowicki, Markets Manager said: “There’s so much going on in Darlington during our ‘Love Your Local Market fortnight’ – not only will there be lots of great local traders old and new, but music, dancing, street theatre, sports and comedy. Darlington Markets is well worth a visit!”
