Gateshead-based Climb Creative was the only North East company to come away with an accolade in the 2015 Big Chip Awards, which celebrate the achievements of digital firms throughout the North of England.

The company scooped top prize in the best B2B e-business project category after beating off stiff competition from a host of other brand agencies. Judges were impressed with Climb Creative’s work in creating a fully functional website and e-commerce platform for Where the Trade Buys, which sells all forms of digital, litho and large format print banners, posters, leaflets and other printed material to businesses across the UK.

The e-commerce platform has been a roaring success, generating seven-figure annual sales since it was launched. Judges praised the site and said it “does just what it says on the tin, providing cost-effective online buying for UK businesses”.

Chris Henderson, managing director of Climb Creative, said: “We’re thrilled that our work has been recognised by such a prestigious awards scheme, which has been going 17 years and been hailed as the largest of its kind outside of London. It will help to raise our profile across the region and beyond and that will hopefully translate into more digital projects coming through.

“Eventually our aim is to propel Climb Creative onto the national stage and this award win is an important part of that process.”

Chris launched Climb Creative with business partner Stephen Downey in 2011 and since then the firm, which has seven staff, has grown on the back of a series of contract wins. It carries out a wide range of work for clients, including web software development, design of user-friendly websites, branding and graphic design.

The majority of its clients are from the North East but now Chris aims to grow the company’s geographical footprint in other areas of the UK – with the lucrative London market a key target.
