Screen Shot 2015-07-17 at 10.52.20Traders are reminded that there is a fantastic opportunity to join in the fun and present their wares to the public at Darlington’s fantastic Summer Market which runs from Thursday 13 – Sunday 16 August. Would-be traders can choose to attend one or more days to suit their needs.

Those who sell old fashioned and themed goods may be especially interested in the event, which promises something for the whole family with a host of exciting activities and vintage fun.

The town’s annual Tea Dance, with a celebration theme to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, will get things off to a lively start and get you ’in the mood’ on Wednesday 12 August.

The Summer Market fun will then continue each day until Sunday with street entertainment; a vintage Jeep, dancers and DJ; World War Two inspired trio Hotsie Totsies; vintage cars and bikes; Cockerton  Brass Band; Punch and Judy as well as a host of competitions, workshops and a fun fair.

Among the highlights of the event will be a return of the Tribute Bands show, supported by Heart Radio, featuring Freddie Mercury Tribute, Katy Perry/ Lady GaGa/ Pink tributes with a full set band, Michael Jackson Tribute, Amy Winehouse Tribute and Take That Tribute. The Tribute Bands will be performing in the Market Square on Sunday 17 August, 1-6pm.

Throughout the event the town’s regular stallholders, both indoor and outdoor, as well as visiting traders will be taking part with stalls open from 9am each day Thursday to Sunday, offering a host of goods from tasty local produce and more exotic delicacies to books, clothes and much more.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “Our spectacular Summer Market has become a hugely popular event and offers a great opportunity for local and visiting market traders to join in the fun and boost their businesses.

“The town centre is undergoing major changes, including the cinema development and multi- storey car park, that will improve and enhance the shopping experience and we hope events such as this will continue to encourage more shoppers, as well as traders, to come to Darlington.”

Places for stalls are limited, but there are still some spots available for visiting stallholders who have the option of booking a place for one day or all four. To find our more or to book your place, email Heather Barron at heather.barron@darlington.gov.uk.
