Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Detering dog fouling with pavement slogans

Microsoft Word - Document1Romanby Parish Council has enlisted the help of spray-painted pavement slogans in its fight against dog fouling in the parish.

They are working with the district council’s Dog Warden who uses stencils to leave the message ‘Bag it bin it’ with a picture of a dog, in ‘hotspot’ streets throughout Romanby district.

The spray signs which have the backing of North Yorkshire County Council are marked using a chalk-based temporary paint, which washes off in the rain.

“We want to show our residents that we are taking dog fouling seriously,” said Ward Member and Parish Councillor, Councillor Kevin Hardisty.

“We are determined to do all we can to shame dog owners who don’t pick up after their pets.

Hopefully they will see the signs and know that the Dog Warden has been in the area and think twice before walking away from it.

“The message is simple, it is a criminal offence, and it is your pet and your responsibility. Bag it and bin it.”

Dog owners are advised to find a dog waste bin to dispose of the offending material, or failing that to bag the mess and take it home or use a standard litter bin.

Anyone who gets caught not clearing up after their pooch face an automatic fixed penalty fine of £50 which if not paid can lead to a £1000 fine.

Vigilant residents can report offenders to the council on 01609 779977.
