Digital movement spurs new training scheme

Redcar & Cleveland College is launching a Level 2 Hair and Media Makeup Diploma to give students seeking behind-the-scenes work in the media industry a chance to learn the art of photographic make-up and hair.

The diploma will teach students how to apply make-up, eyelash and brow treatments, colour hair using temporary colour, the art of dressing hair, and much more.

It was introduced in response to the growing popularity of digital platforms including Youtube, which according to Infogr.am, sees 16-24 year olds make up 25% of its users and has triggered demand for courses that can fast-track students into image-dominated professions such as television work or make-up artistry.

Operations Director for Student Support at Redcar & Cleveland College, said: “The increase in social media popularity and distribution platforms such as blogs and Youtube has spawned need for an influx of new skills in image-led professions and the college has listened and responded with a fresh new learning programme.

“The diploma will show students how to achieve that camera-ready look for clients, through specially designed media makeup, the latest hair and fashion products and more.

“Students will have the chance to achieve a nationally recognised qualification in a unique and tailored course and it’s a fantastic opportunity for anybody looking to work in the media as a makeup artist or hair stylist.”

The diploma will start in September. For further information about the programme and how to enroll, visit http://www.cleveland.ac.uk/courses/parttime/hairbeautyholistics/ha030-level-2-diploma-in-hair-and-media-make-up.
