DIY Streets architect boosts its team

CaptureAward-winning architectural practice xsite has added further to its team, announcing the arrival of two new faces.

Xsite, the practice responsible for transforming much of the region’s landscape with high profile regeneration schemes, has appointed both Jonny Flavin and Annie Hart.

Qualified architect Jonny, originally studied product design before qualifying as an architect in 2013.  Since his switch to architecture he has worked on some major projects including a student housing scheme on New Bridge Street, Durham Police HQ, North Tyneside Area Command HQ and a number of education schemes.

Annie, who is a Part 3 architectural assistant, has gained experience working mostly on residential schemes, ranging in size from 90 to 350 homes plus smaller renovation schemes to convert office accommodation into residential units, as well as taking a large scale masterplan up to planning stage,  for  a multi million pound mixed use development in Peterborough.

According to xsite’s founding partner Tim Bailey, both bring with them the right mix of experience, enthusiasm and passion for creating great buildings and spaces for people to live and work in.  He said:

“I’m delighted to welcome Jonny and Annie to our talented team, which is growing steadily in response to an increase in demand for our range of innovative design, sustainability and planning services.  In order for us to design buildings on behalf of our clients which create great working and livings spaces, it is important that the kind of people who share our passion and belief about good design.    Both Jonny and Annie have clearly demonstrated this to be the case.

“Jonny’s background in product design adds a further dimension to his approach to architecture, while Annie’s experience to date proves she also has also what it takes to see her through to qualification and beyond on a sustainable career path.”

Speaking about his new role, Jonny said:

“Having joined a design focused practice which has broad spectrum of projects to its name will allow me to add further to the knowledge and experience I have gained so far.  I am looking forward to working projects that will have a positive impact on regeneration and breathing new life into buildings which have stood empty for some time.”

Annie also commented:

“xsite is a practice which is well known for being socially responsible and creating the most imaginative design solutions possible, regardless of financial or any other constraint – all of which is important to me as I continue my training.  I am looking forward to getting stuck in to my new role as I am confident that I am going to learn so much from my more experienced peers in the practice.”

xsite has recently been shortlisted along with four other practices, as part of a design competition on behalf of Arch Developments Ltd and Northumberland County Council, to develop proposals for the major redevelopment of the former Tesco site in Bedlington, Northumberland.

The winner of the competition is expected to be announced in March 2016.
