Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Dobson & Parnell celebrates first anniversary

Staff at Newcastle-based Dobson & Parnell are toasting to their success after being listed in the Michelin Guide 2018, and are offering guests a complimentary glass of fizz on Wednesday, November 29, to mark the restaurant’s first anniversary.

Restaurateur Andy Hook, who owns Hooked-on Group, one of the region’s best known hospitality groups, teamed up with chef patron Troy Terrington in November 2016 to open Dobson & Parnell at 21 Queen Street, on Newcastle’s Quayside, to specialise in refined British and European cuisine.

Dobson & Parnell is the third restaurant in the Hooked-on Group, alongside Blackfriars Restaurant in Newcastle and Hinnies Restaurant in Whitley Bay.

Now, less than a year after it opened, the restaurant has made it into the renowned Michelin Guide 2018. The Michelin guide’s recommendations are based on a team of national inspectors who scour the country looking for great restaurants who offer fresh, seasonal ingredients, innovative cooking style and fantastic service.

Dobson & Parnell’s listing in the guide states: “An iconic address in the city, this elegant restaurant is named after Victorian architects John Dobson and William Parnell. Cooking has a Nordic style, with plenty of drying, pickling and curing. Dishes are colourful and satisfying.”

John Dobson was one of the North’s most famous architects and was responsible for the design of many local landmarks including Newcastle’s Grainger Market, Central Station and several areas of Grey Street, whilst fellow architect William Parnell designed Newcastle’s Grade I listed Tyne Theatre. The pair designed the Victorian Grade II listed building, which houses Dobson & Parnell, back in 1863.

The 65-seat restaurant, which created 20 new jobs when it opened last year, has long been an attractive location for restaurateurs. It was the original home of Terry Laybourne’s Michelin-starred 21 Queen Street as well as the popular modern-British restaurant Pan Haggerty.

Dobson & Parnell’s chef patron Troy Terrington moved to the North East in 2005 and worked as head chef at both Blackfriars Restaurant and Jesmond Dene House. His dishes feature ethically-sourced local, seasonal produce direct from nearby farms and markets.

Troy said: “We’re delighted to be listed in the Michelin Guide 2018 so soon after opening. It’s been a great first year and we can’t wait to celebrate with our guests by popping the fizz on 29 November.

“We love being based on the Quayside, which has become such a thriving hub of bars and restaurants. One year on, we feel like we’re making our mark here. We’ve introduced regular events such as Bring Your Best Wine Evenings, Seafood and Whisky Nights and Wine Dinners, which are proving to be really popular. We have plenty of exciting plans in the pipeline for next year, so here’s to 2018!”

The restaurant is open six days a week serving lunch and dinner. The excellent value Set Menu is served during weekday lunchtimes and early evening and is priced at £19 at lunch and £25 at dinner for three courses. The à la carte menu is served from 5.30pm Tuesday – Saturday.

Christmas booking are now being taken at Dobson and Parnell. The festive menu can be viewed at www.dobsonandparnell.co.uk/menus  and large parties can be catered for.

Dobson & Parnell also offers a special seven-course tasting menu, priced at £65 per person, and £100 per person for seven courses with wine pairing. It is available between 5.30pm – 9pm between Tuesday and Saturday, for a maximum of eight guests per table. Guests are advised to book in advance and to allow 2.5-3hrs to fully savour the tasting menu experience.
