Members of a local charity are helping to paint Northallerton’s Civic Centre yellow and blue ready for the visit by the Tour de Yorkshire next month.
They are busy putting the finishing touches to wooden bikes which will adorn Hambleton District Council’s headquarters from next week.
Northdale Horticulture, is working with council officers to dress five bikes for the centre and another three for the leisure centres in Northallerton, Stokesley and Thirsk which are also on the route of the race.
“The service users and staff at Northdale are delighted to have been invited to take part in the preparations for the Tour de Yorkshire,” said Service Manager at Northdale, Simon Cross.
“It’s great that such major sporting event can support the involvement of people from right across our community. Our clients have had great fun decorating the bikes and we hope that the residents of Hambleton and Richmondshire will enjoy seeing them dotted around the district.”
Top class riders from across the world will cycle through the Hambleton district on May 1 – on day three of the Tour de Yorkshire. They visit Great Ayton, Stokesley, Northallerton, Thirsk and Sutton bank before heading to Scarborough and the finish line.
The wooden bikes – which are popping up across Northallerton – have been specially made for the race and organized by Simon Bailes.
Northdale – which is based in Northallerton – provides training and work based activities for adults with learning disabilities to help them fulfil their personal and work life potential – that includes gardening, nursery work, woodwork and arts and crafts.
