In the run up to Christmas, the Durham University Flute Choir will perform a special Christmas concert in aid of national disability charity, Sense. The ‘Christmas with a Twist’ charity concert, which will be held on the 14thDecember at 7.30pm in the Kingsgate Room at the Durham Student Union, is open to the public and is free to attend.
The ‘Christmas with a Twist’ concert will feature the Durham University Flute Choir performing a mixture of seasonal classic and modern festive tunes, such as ‘Jumpin Jingle Bells’, as arranged by Gareth McLearnon. There will also be seasonal refreshments available.
On the evening, donations will be collected for Sense, a charity which supports people who are deafblind and have complex communication needs to live full, independent lives. The ensemble were inspired to raise money for the charity after group member, Cara Wharton, volunteered for Sense Holidays, which enables young disabled people to have fun-packed breaks away from home over the Summer Holidays.
Durham University Flute Choir President, Cara Wharton, said:
“I was keen to raise money for Sense after volunteering on one of the charity’s Holidays, where I was able to see first-hand the inspiring work they do supporting young disabled people to make friends and have fun away from home.
“I’m really pleased that the group has decided to hold this concert in aid of a charity so close to my heart. In the run up to the performance we’ve been busy practising lots of different seasonal songs, including some really interesting modern takes on festive classics, which will be sure to put people in the Christmas spirit.”
The Durham University Flute Choir’s ‘Christmas with a Twist’ event will be held on the 14th December at 7.30pm in the Kingsgate Room at the Durham Student Union. The event is free to attend and all are welcome. Donations will be collected on the evening in aid of Sense.
