Craig Harman, 23, from Hartlepool, who works at Fellaz Barbershop, competed in last week’s City & Guilds Barbering Apprentice of the Year England Finals, which was held at East Durham College’s Peterlee campus.

The competition, featuring eight finalists from across the country was hotly contested.

Each finalist had to take to the stage to show off their skills to a top team of highly respected judges from around England.

Craig couldn’t believe it when he found out he had placed third in the competition and was extremely proud of his achievement.

Craig said: “This was a huge shock.

“Just being in the final was a great experience.

“Being able to get up on stage and show what I have learnt through my training at the college and apprenticeship at Fellaz so far to a team of expert judges was a huge thrill.

“The award is a great boost as I get started on the next level of my course and I am looking forward to entering more competitions throughout the year.”

East Durham College barbering lecturer, Alison Scattergood, was delighted to see Craig come in third position and is proud to have helped to bring this prestigious competition to the college.

Alison added: “I was so proud to see Craig take third place. He has been a fantastic student since he joined the college, and it was great to see how confident he was in his ability when up on the stage.

“It was a huge honour to help organise this prestigious event at the college alongside City & Guilds and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”
