EDC Travel Celebrates Second Birthday

East Durham College’s very own travel agency is celebrating two years of trading.

Launched in 2014, EDC Travel was set up by the college in partnership with Hays Travel, to not only sell fantastic getaways, but help train the travel agents of the future.

Store manager Julie Heath; looks after the day-to-day running of the store, with students from the college’s travel and tourism courses using the store to gain valuable work experience, getting them ready to join the industry once they successfully complete their courses.

Staff and students celebrated the milestone with a cake made by catering students who study at the college’s bistro-style restaurant, Scene1.

Julie is proud to see the store performing well as it heads into its third year, and hopes to be celebrating many more birthdays in the future.

Julie said: “We are really proud of our little store here at the college. It’s been an exciting venture since we launched in 2014, and we have continued to go from strength to strength.

“I want to thank everyone who has come in and booked a holiday with us over the last two years.”

East Durham College travel and tourism lecturer Mandy Sert added: “It’s great to see EDC Travel heading into its third year.

“The store has done really well and the impact it has had on training our students has been fantastic.

“It’s such a brilliant resource to help our students learn what day-to-day life is like working in a travel agency, and sets them up for a great start in their future careers.”
