BALLOONS, chocolates, cards and flowers decorated care homes across the North East on Mother’s Day.
At Pelton Grange Care Home, in Chester-le-Street, residents released balloons in memory of their mothers.
They attached loving wishes to ribbons before releasing them in the garden and watching them ascend into the sky.
Resident Mary Dunn said: “It’s lovely to think the fond wishes could reach my mam.”
The home also held an afternoon tea for the resident mothers and their visitors.
Les Burnett, home manager at Pelton Grange Care Home, on Front Street, said: “We wanted to do something a little different this Mother’s Day and organise an event for our residents to remember their own mothers.
“Many of our elderly residents’ mothers have passed so it was a lovely way for them to reminisce and talk about their fond memories.”
At Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, in Peterlee, residents were treated to a special meal with their loved ones.
A mother and daughter lunch was hosted at the home, with the ladies wined and dined on freshly prepared fish and chips, rosé and chocolates for dessert.
Resident Rose Ann Fenbow said: “It was so lovely to have lunch with my daughter Claire. It’s so kind for the home to organise the event.”
Lynn Chapman, home manager at Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, on Manor Way, said: “A lot of our residents have families they want to spend time with on special occasions such as Mother’s Day.
“We always try to do something special and this year was no different. The kitchen cooked a delicious meal enjoyed by all our resident mothers and their daughters.”
