Tyne and Wear Metro is inviting children to turn adventurer this May half term by discovering the region’s hidden treasures.

Metro is launching a brand new free adventure book to encourage families to get out and about during the school holidays and explore all the fantastic things the region has to offer. By jumping on board a Metro this half term children can turn adventurer and enjoy a fun day out with their families while finding new things to see and do in the region from Newcastle’s boat on the Ouse at Seven Stories to Propellers of the City in Sunderland.

Based on a game of ‘eye spy’ Metro has designed a fun, interactive book which the whole family can enjoy looking out for objects, animals, artworks and places across the Metro network ticking them off as they spot them.

The book has a series of bonus questions to test Metro adventurers’ knowledge and encourage families to use their detective skills to find the answers. It also features four fun activities including a word search, spot the difference a puzzle maze and a colouring page, which children can either do on their journey or at the end of their Metro adventure. Adventures can also learn some interesting facts about Metro such as the amount of times every Metro car door opens and shuts in a year and the total distance Metro trains cover every day. There’s even a special certificate at the back for when the book is completed.

Metro Services Director, Chris Carson, said:  “We are very lucky to have so many amazing things to do and places to see in Tyne and Wear and we often take them for granted. Despite visiting somewhere lots of times, there is always something new to see – whether that is a story hidden in plain sight or an unusual building that customers might have never noticed before – we wanted to highlight some of these in our Metro Adventure book.

“We hope Metro customers will enjoy our new adventure book and use it to explore the region both during school holidays and at weekends. It is a great way to discover new places and to have a fun day out with the whole family.”

Customers can let Metro know they’re taking part via Twitter @My_Metro and Instagram by sharing photos of their detective work using the hashtag #MetroMission.

Metro Adventure books will be available from Nexus TravelShops from June 1, 2017 and is also available to download fromwww.nexus.org.uk/metro/offers.
