CHILDREN hoping to land a top job at the North East’s biggest shopping centre have just a handful of days left to apply.

Entries have flooded in from youngsters keen to become intu Metrocentre’s first ever Head of Fun and now the centre is urging last minute applicants to get their entries in before the 27 March deadline.

The job, which will involve everything from reviewing toys to helping out Santa’s elves at Christmas time, is only open to children aged between six and 10 and is believed to be the first appointment of its kind in the region.

The new Head of Fun will be expected to help with the intu Metrocentre Kids’ Club, including social media and its special offers, become friends with the Metrognomes and test new restaurants and leisure activities for child friendliness and lots of fun.

They will also get to meet Santa and his elves and test out lots of new toys sold in the centre – meaning they will be among the first in the region to find out all about new crazes and toy trends.

The role will not clash with school, as the Head of Fun, who will be one of the first in line to meet any stars and special guests visiting the centre, will only be asked to help out during holidays and half term breaks.

“We aim to give our younger visitors the very best experience possible,” said intu Metrocentre marketing manager, Helen Atkinson, “and that’s why we’re on the hunt for a cool, creative and confident kid to join our team.

“We’ve had some great applications but there is still a little time left so we would urge anyone who thinks this is the role for them, to get their applications in quickly.”

To apply, children must explain in up to 200 words why they think they should be Head of Fun.

Applications can be in the form of a letter, song or even a poem – the more creative the better – and must be accompanied by a recent photograph.

They can then be emailed to metrocentre.information@intu.co.uk or posted to intu Metrocentre, Centre Management, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear NE11 9YG.

All applications must be received by Friday 27 March and interviews will take place during the week commencing 13 April.
