A Sunderland based company has expanded with the appointment of a new director just seven months after it was launched.

Following a 12 year career in the modular wiring sector as an estimating and design manager, David Green established Curo Modular Services in February this year offering modular design, estimating and drawing services to manufacturers, contractors and consultants. David explains:

“Starting my own business was something I had wanted to do for some time but had held back wanting to ensure the timing was right. Then for one reason or another I decided that this year was the time to take a risk and just go for it!”

Appointing Jason Harrison as a director gives Curo the ability and confidence to go after larger projects and contracts, as between them they offer a combined 23 years’ experience in this niche industry. David continues:

“Jason and I had previously worked together for around 11 years, and had built up a great relationship. He has a fantastic work ethic and we had already discussed him coming on board with me when the business allowed.

“It’s great to have him with me so early on, and feel our combined experience in the modular wiring sector means we are able to offer clients a consistent and trusted expertise in our field. We can also start taking on generic CAD work across all building services, such as working drawings and as-fitteds, as well as understanding and working with integration of BIM projects.”

Speaking of his appointment, Jason said:

“This was a great opportunity to work with David again. We had discussed the idea many times, but for it to become a reality, and to have the opportunity to be involved with the development and growth of the business is very exciting. I learned so much working with David in the past by starting as a trainee CAD operator, through to a senior estimator & CAD engineer, so I am delighted to take on the new role.”

David has been utilising the business lounge at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) since he launched his company, he adds:

“I was always aware of the BIC and its tailored services to support businesses as I’m from the area, and it was built on the former shipyards where my parents worked.

“The flexible and affordable business lounge is the ideal environment for entrepreneurs who are just starting out. Working in a shared office space has enabled me to connect with other business leaders and their knowledge sharing has been a great support.

“From visiting the BIC’s start-up team for business advice during the planning stages, to receiving advice and access to courses and growth opportunities, the BIC’s support has been vital and as the company continues to grow I will remain here on site and plan to be in my own office by this time next year.

“Now there are two of us, we can focus on gradually growing the business and continue to build relationships focusing on larger projects within sectors such as healthcare, commercial and education.”

Centre manager at the BIC Donna Surtees adds:

“David has worked hard to get the business off the ground and I would like to congratulate Jason on his new appointment.

“The business lounge creates a social hub and is particularly supportive to new entrepreneurs so it’s encouraging to see David has benefited from our co-working space.”
