Swan and Turner Auctioneers and Valuers, part of Harrison and Hetherington have announced over 700 Lots will go under the hammer in their autumn general antique and collectables sale.  Taking place at Swan and Turners sale room in Jedburgh on the 8th October at 10am, the auction is already creating great excitement, with its star turn sure to be a piece by the renowned designer, Daisy Makeig Jones.

Together with some striking jewellery, period furniture and weaponry, other notable lots in the porcelain and ceramics section will be a Wemyssware Sleeping Pig, a rare Beswick Dairy Shorthorn Bull and a large collection of splendid quality Limited Edition Border Fine Arts Figures.

The 1920’s Wedgewood Fairyland Lustre 17” high vase, designed by Daisy Makeig Jones, who was without doubt, the leading designer of the time, is demonstrating huge interest from both collectors in the UK, and overseas.  Coupled with its superb condition it has every chance of exceeding the pre-sale estimate of £10,000 to £15,000.

Born in Yorkshire, Daisy Makeig Jones joined Wedgewood as an apprenticeship painter in 1909, and it is thought that the Fairyland Lustre range was released as many Europeans were looking for real fantastical stuff to escape the memories and horrors of war.

Commenting on the forthcoming sale, Frank Forrest auctioneer for Swan and Turner said:  “Our autumn sale includes an extremely good entry of quality porcelain and ceramics, and we are especially excited about the level of interest the Fairyland Lustre Vase is generating from both collectors in this country and abroad.

Of particular interest to literary and sport collectors are 14 Limited Edition Volumes of British Sports and Sportsmen, which has a pre-sale estimate of between £2000 and £3000.

“We envisage that this Limited Edition collection will pique the interest of both literary and sport collectors, especially as one of the volumes has been signed by the late World Speed Record exponent, Donald Campbell,” said Frank

As has come to be expected from the Jedburgh sale rooms, the auction will include a large selection of jewellery, the highlight, which is sure to be an exceptional Gold set 5 Diamond Ring, with each diamond being of approximately 1 carat.  This diamond spectacular is very conservatively estimated at £4000 to £6000.

Together with a stunning range of period furniture, the autumn sale will also incorporate for the military enthusiasts, a super collection of weaponry, including 18th and 19th Century Flintlock, pistols, swords and bayonets.

All the items for sale are available to view online at http://www.swanturner.co.uk.  There will also be viewings on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th October form 11am to 6pm, and on the morning of the sale.

Swan and Turner provide a complete auction house service, holding five antique auctions a year.  The sales programme includes regular auction sales of fine art, antique and collectables, which are interspersed with occasional specialist sales.
