Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Food safety advice on offer

County Durham residents are being offered the chance to pick up important food hygiene tips for free thanks to one of the region’s largest landlords.

The free Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene course, organised by County Durham Housing Group, will provide the key skills needed to ensure that food is prepared safely and hygienically. It has been specifically designed to be useful for anyone preparing food at home, looking to work in a food-based job or even the self-employed.

The course also covers the importance of hygiene and how to avoid contamination of food during preparation. The food hygiene course is taking place at Cornerstone, on Brockwell Court in Willington on Monday, 30 October from 9am to 4.30pm.

Despite being a Level 2 course, no previous experience is required. Delivered by friendly but informative trainers, the course is practical in nature with opportunities to trial new knowledge with exercises that will also build confidence.

County Durham Housing Group Community Training Coordinator, Sean Robson, said: “Cooking for your family, or for work, is a something that almost all of us do on a daily basis. Why wouldn’t you want to learn how to do it better and more safely for free?

“Food hygiene is a really important qualification and the knowledge will stay with you forever. Once you’ve learnt it you’ll wonder why you left it so long.”

The Food Safety and Hygiene course is the latest in a series of training and education opportunities being offered by County Durham Housing Group. The training is free to all of the group’s tenants and anyone who is currently out of work living in the area.

More information on how to take part is available from Sean Robson at County Durham Housing Group on 0191 349 7753 or email training@cdhg.co.uk
